12 Ways to Build Your List Quickly

One of the best ways to create a steady stream of followers and income is to build a list. As a Shoestring Marketer, I am always looking for ways to do this both efficiently and cost-effectively. Below I have listed twelve of my favorite ways to bring folks onto your list.
1. Give away your best material. This is important for two reasons. People will opt into your list only if they really want what you are offering. Second, if you give away really good information, you will build your reputation as someone who produces good products. This will lead to more sales down the road. You can promote your free products on your blog, in a forum signature line, or as a free WSO on the Warrior Forum. If you are not familiar with the ins and outs of creating a WSO, Jason Fladlien’s WSO Cash Machine is very useful.
2. Blog Commenting. If you post really good content on other people’s blog, you will get some good traffic. One great trick is to use Google Alerts to inform you of when a new blog post has been posted in a topic that you have expertise. When you get an alert, you can be one of the first to comment on that blog post. Most people only read the first several comments, so you want to make sure yours is one of them.
3. Guest Blogging. If you are a good writer, consider guest blogging. One post on a popular blog can bring you hundreds of visitors, and thereby, opt-ins to your list.
4. Do AdSwaps with other people in your niche who are also list building. Check out Gary Simpson’s free ebook Adswaps, for more information on the best way to do AdSwaps.
5. Product Squeeze Page. When promoting a product, create an opt-in squeeze page that the person needs to complete when purchasing the product. This is also important if you plan to send out updates to the product.
6. Referrals. If you create excellent products, or are extremely helpful in forums, people will begin to talk about you! Referrals can be a very powerful way to get people to visit your blog or buy your products.
7. YouTube videos. Comment to other Youtube videos. You can link to your video that has links to your website. Since many people watch Youtube videos, they are also likely to read the comments.
8. Your Blog. Many people have one opt-in box somewhere on their blog. Take advantage of your blog and use opt-in boxes for free products, listed after each blog post, and as exit pop-ups. Offer good material, and people will sign up. Andy Fletcher’s DigiListBuilder is a powerful tool to create the optin-boxes that you need.
9. Joint Ventures. If you know someone with a big list in your niche, strike up a partnership where he mails to his list in return for a future mailing from you or some other service that you can provide. You will be surprised by how many people are willing to do this! Just ask!
10. Youtube, again! Make a video (or two or three!) and show your website link at the bottom. If you have never made a video before, check out my previous blog, 6 Cool Free Tools, on how to use free software to create a simple video easily.
11. Leverage Others’ Lists: Enhance someone else’s product and write it up as a short report. Send it to product owner to promote to his list. They can opt-in to your list to get the free report and you can also add links to your products and website address within the report.
12. JV Giveaways. If you have a great free product to give away, this can be an excellent way to create a list. Keith Purkiss has a free ebook about how to take part in JV Giveaways. You can request it here.
So choose a few of the above, and give it a go. See your list grow by leaps and bounds! Traffic and growing your list go hand in hand.
